June 25th, 2010 by ron.snouffer@trivanroofing.comPositive thoughts and how they influence business
May 13th, 2010 by adminHow much effect do Positive thoughts have on business life? The answer is that a positive salesperson is going to be more effective and outperform someone who is not in the right mindset. A customer can since when someone is not in the right frame of mind. Customers do business with people they like and if you have a poor attitude it will reflect in your behavior on a daily basis. This goes for customers too if a sales person has a good attitude about the product or service then the customer will have the same response.
Tips for today
May 13th, 2010 by adminIt is not always the best price that gets you the best deal!!!! Sometimes you will double your investment for the same product. Case in point we have been referred a client who had there roof done last year and they are having leaks the previous roofer is no longer returning there phones calls and is unwilling to make repairs to the roof. He has tried to track them down with an attorney to force them to make repairs but they cannot be found. The contractor was from Ohio and was only in town for a short period of time. So you can keep a leaky roof or you can pay someone a second time to fix it right. It pays to know who you’re doing business with in today’s economy. Most people are willing to pay to have the security to know that there is a warranty on a product; with that in mind remember that a warranty is only as strong as the company that warranties it. make sure the company your doing business with will be in business when you need them.
Hiring a contractor
May 13th, 2010 by adminHiring a contractor – By: Ron the roofer
Every year a roof should be inspected for wear and tear and to make sure the roof is functioning properly. Early detection of damage can help reduce the cost of hefty repairs. Since most people don’t climb on their roof and have no training on how to look for damage, it is best to have a roofing expert to take a look. Most roofing contractors will perform these inspections free of charge.
Hiring a roofing contractor requires the same caution as hiring any other contractor. You don’t want someone that is not going to be there if there is an issue later on. You want to make sure they are a member of the Better Business Bureau (http://tinyurl.com/bbb-trivan ) and if possible make sure they are accredited. You want them to have good references so ask for a list, even better if they have video testimonials ( www.TriVANroofing.com/testimonials ). You can learn a lot from the performance of a company from their past clients. You want to know if they were satisfied with the work that was performed and if they would use the company again. If a previous customer is not willing to refer a them again why would you want to use them a first time.
Check the type of warranty or guarantees that apply to the work that is performed. Just because you are told that you are getting a warranty make sure you get it in writing. When signing a contract with a contract you want to make sure everything is in writing that you are expecting to get with the job. Never sign a contract with sections that are blank or without a clear understanding of the price of the job.
Many companies are requiring a deposit in order to start a job. If you haven’t checked out the company never give out a deposit. If they must have a deposit, ask to make the deposit when materials are delivered. Once the job is completed to the extent of the contract and you are fully satisfied submit the final payment. If you are not satisfied tell your contractor of any issues that you still have with the job. A ROOFING PROFESSIONAL should listen to your concerns and answer any remaining questions about the job so you are completely satisfied. Never pay in full until the job is completed.
The last thing you need to make sure of is that any contractor you have work for you has insurance. The majority of contractors do not carry insurance on the jobs. So that means it falls to your insurance if there is a problem at the job site. So make sure you take these things into consideration before you hire a roofing contractor.
Don’t Let This Happen to You!
May 13th, 2010 by adminWhile perusing the internet for new roofing articles, I came across this shocking news story about a roofer who scammed his clients. It’s really interesting and you all should definitely read it/watch the video if you plan on replacing or repairing your roof any time soon.

With that in mind, here are a couple of things to watch for when hiring a roofing contractor:
1. Make sure your contractor is certified. What does this mean? In layman’s terms, certain manufacturers (GAF-Elk, Atlas, Owens Corning, etc.) will certify contractors that they trust. These contractors have extremely high standards when it comes to construction, materials and safety.
2. Always ask for references. A reputable company will take care of its clients…meaning a lot of valuable references.
3. If you experience some nasty storm damage and want your roof looked at, don’t let the first “Chuck with a truck” that knocks on your door climb up on your roof. In many cases, when a storm hits, out-of-state roofers will grab a ladder, jump in their truck and follow hail damage.
4. When you do hire that perfect roofer, try and spend some time at home when your roof is being replaced. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. TOO LOUD! Well, if it was my roof, I would want to occasionally check on the progress. This may eliminate the chances of cross-ventilation or poorly-laid shingles, which could automatically void your warranty.
Will your roofer be honest with you?
February 23rd, 2010 by adminOne of our customers recently told me how impressed they were with the honesty of one of our project managers. He told me that Joe Singh had come out and informed him that the roof had marginal damage. That it did not have enough damage to file an insurance claim. He was surprised that we told him that we did not recommend him filing a claim on his roof because it would not meet his deductible. It is important to our company that our clients don’t file claims unless we know we can get them approved. He was also surprise that Joe educated him on what was damage from a storm and what was just wear and tear. Composition shingles are not designed to last forever. The standard warranty is full replacement for 5 years and then a proration for the reminder of the life of the shingle. Just like a set of tires if you have 50% used they will only warranty 50%.
Get a Carbon Monoxide Detector
January 20th, 2010 by adminEvery year people become ill or die from Carbon Monoxide gas. Many houses have gas furnaces or gas hot water heaters. If these units are not inspected a couple of times a year you can have leaks and not even know it. Carbon Monoxide is heavier than air and therefore it does not rise. It seeps back into the house where it causes harm to unknowing individuals. Carbon Monoxide gas is odorless and tasteless so by the time you know you have a leak it could be to late.
I bring this up because I was putting back up my Christmas decorations and notice that my pipe for my hot water heater was not being vented correctly. We have had a lot of wind storms this year and there is no telling how long my pipes had been disconnected. My next project will be 29 dollars for a Carbon Monoxide detector and take 5 minutes to install. Knowing that I wont have to worry about Carbon Monoxide Gas will be priceless.
Get An Inspection
October 17th, 2009 by adminOn 10/16/09 Dave met up with an home inspector to help determine damage to a roof. The house was under contract and they were in the option period to have the house checked out for any issues that could affect the value of the house. The inspector could tell there was damage but could not determine if there was enough to determine if the roof needed replacing. Dave was able to show the inspector how to determine if a roof needs to be replaced and inspected the roof with him for damage. After review of test squares on all slopes of the roof it was determined that the roof should be replaced. This service was done free of charge to the home owner the inspector and the Realtor. next time you have questions or concerns about your roof before you call your insurance company call TriVAN roofing. http://www.trivanroofing.com/
Real Estate Investors
October 8th, 2009 by adminHow many real estate investors have had there properties inspected by an actual contractor after storm season. Most property management companies will not go on the roof to inspect for damage. So you get a call saying it looks good they don’t see any damage, but they are looking from the ground. Or they just call the tenant and say do you have any damage on the property from the storms. The tenant generally does not care if you have damage to the property they are renters not owners. How long will they wait to tell you the ceiling has a brown stain on it or will they wait until the ceiling falls in. Do yourself a favor get a free inspection on a your property from a specialist. contact http://www.trivanroofing.com/
Sick and tired of poor contractors
October 8th, 2009 by adminI would like to say buyers beware. The cheapest price is not always the best deal. TriVAN received a request for inspection last week from someone who had there roof done last year in the hail storm. They had used a roofer who was the best price of all the bids they got. Less than a year later the roof is leaking. We did an inspection and found that the shingles are defective. The roofer is no where to be found all numbers are disconnected and they have left the state chasing another storm. The owner can not claim insurance damage because the issue is with the previous roofer. 2 options patch and hope for the best but most likely will need to replace the roof out of there own pocket. Please check references when dealing with contractors. If you need references for HVAC Electric Plumbing painter or Handyman let us know we know plenty of people that will do a great job. If your in need of help from Storm damage go to http://www.trivanroofing.com/ and ask for a free inspection.
